Upcoming Events

There is a ton of activity happening in the Seattle Startup Community right now – after Mark Suster gave an inspiring speach at the Seattle 2.0 awards. Red is putting together another event Seattle Tech Meetup, Pascal is builing the Technology Launch Center, and of course there is all the standard stuff that continues to happen – TechFoamSeattle Tech Startups, NWEN, Hops & Chops, Startup Poker 2.0, Seattle Startup Drinks, etc.

Of course here at TechCafe we are rocking and rolling with tons of events this summer. I have been asked a lot lately about what those upcoming events look like so I wanted to lay out some details here. Specific dates, locations, topic, and times will be coming in the invites.

So without further ado, here is the order of the next events over the summer (if you aren’t on the mailing list to get the invites, let us know):

TechCafe Happy Hour @TeachStreet – 6/16 @4:30pm

TechCafe Happy Hour @3R Technologies

TechCafe Happy Hour @Aeon Law

TechCafe Happy Hour @Conceivian

Of course if you miss one, we always try to get the summary (photos, video, writeup) posted here so you can gain access to the insights of the community. Also as always the events are free to attend and full of people from the tech community (devs, test, designers, PMs, etc.), founders, etc. If you are interested in sponsoring or hosting an event either this summer or after the summer is over please let us know. Similarly if you are interested in sponsoring the site, t-shirts, or something else more creative – please let us know!

Seattle Startups

For the third year running TechCafe is supporting our great friends over at Seattle 2.0!! We won the first year for best startup event, were excluded from the second year, and this year there isn’t even an event category… all is well though we still love the Seattle 2.0 awards. It’s our little Seattle area startup community prom – fit with a few best dressers, some drama, and of course some inspiration for those interested in becoming amazing entrepreneurs! If you haven’t been before, I highly recommend you spend the money to check this one out. Lot’s of entrepreneurs and startup teams to network with and learn from. I just finished my voting for the finalists and somehow Marcelo continues to get the new innovative startups in the list… Remember it’s not a beauty contest – vote for real innovation and talent!!

Speaking of innovation and talent, John Cook from GeekWire came by our TechCafe Happy Hour event last night over at CoCollage‘s offices inside of LaunchSpace and posted a great GeekWire write-up and video of CoCollage. I am continually amazed that the quality of startups around Seattle keeps going up and somehow the quality of reporting John and Todd  put out continues to go up as well.

We are in the midst of getting our next invite together. It seems we’ve done a few events about great startups and building great businesses and haven’t had an event about writing great products!! So we’re going to make sure we keep everyone in the community happy and have the next lunch event focused on coding – if you like to write code and are always wondering what you’ll do with the unknown (potentially crappy) code you’ll inherit going from an uber coder at a big software company to a startup – well this event is focused on you!! We’ve all been there and dealt with the transition, so we will have a CTO who has been through the transition and worked through the obvious problems that scare a lot of corporate coders away from startup life. Keep your eyes out for the invite or send me a note if you want to reserve a spot Josh@techcafe.co

TechCafe Lunch @Cheezburger w/Bing – TOMORROW!!

In case you missed the email (signup on the right), all of our tweets, the update to the events page, or any of the other methods we used to announce this thing – we are having another lunch tomorrow!! The problem of course is that it is sold out – so if you haven’t registered, I highly encourage you to get onto the mailing list to be notified right away in the future when we get event announcements put together (we have another early stage demo event – TechCafe Presents being planned now for Seattle Geek Week, we also have a few more events either before or after this year). If you’re not into email – keep up with our TechCafe Upcoming Events page for more details!!

For the event tomorrow – we have another great lineup for the event and I wanted to ensure that everyone had a proper idea of where they are going in lower Queen Anne so have included a map (below) from the fine folks @bing… Maybe they’ll sponsor us more permanently in the future and we’ll include more maps to events :)

Of course if you are interested in sponsoring, speaking, or partnering with us in some way – let us know!!

TechCafe Happy Hour @pinchzoom

TechCafe Happy Hour @pinchzoom – July 9th 4:30-6pm
707 N 35th Seattle, WA 98103

Register

This will be our first event in Fremont!! We’ve done all over downtown (including pioneer square, belltown, sodo, capitol hill), Ballard, Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue – but this will be the first ever in Fremont…

Pinchzoom builds mobile applications for themselves and others – in other words they have an interesting business model that includes services for other entities and building products that they sell themselves. Certainly an interesting model to look at… and looking at pinchzoom’s new digs it’s easy to see that they are doing executing very well!!

TechCafe Happy Hour @BlueGecko w/Avelle

TechCafe Happy Hour @BlueGecko w/Avelle – June 21st 4:30-6pm
1415 5th Ave. Seattle, WA 98101

Register

This will be Blue Gecko‘s second time hosting and this time they are going all out! We’ll be hosting just next door at the Red Lion’s terrace deck and Avelle/ Bag Borrow or Steal, Inc will be giving a talk as will Jeremiah Wilton (who should prove interesting for all you database techies)!!

Of course the event is free to attend and there will be free drinks/food, there will also be great people to talk to and network with, and an awesome talk – we changed the name, but we didn’t change the event.

Jeremiah has worked with Oracle technology since 1994. His main claim to fame is having been Amazon.com’s first database administrator, back in the pre-IPO days. For seven years, he helped Amazon.com survive exponential scaling, and a wide variety of nearly-catastrophic technology failures. Jeremiah owned and ran ORA-600 Consulting for a number of years, until it was acquired by Blue Gecko, Inc., a global provider of remote administration for Oracle, MySQL and E-Business Suite. Jeremiah also teaches the Oracle certificate program for the University of Washington. Jeremiah is an Oracle Certified Master, a member of the Oak Table, and a frequent presenter at industry conferences and user groups. His publications and whitepapers can be found at www.bluegecko.net.

This will be a fun way to kick off the TechCafe event series – we will be opening it up to more creative events as well as trying even harder to show off cool Northwest tech companies (at their offices). There are some great events in the works for the rest of summer and there is a lot more content on the site so be sure to subscribe to the feed and stay on this mailing list for information.
