We are seeking a machine learning and/or statistics expert (i.e., expertise in statistical programming and/or statistical modeling) to own a variety of exciting projects involving prediction, data analysis, and content creation. You will have the opportunity to design algorithms -- focused on demand prediction, resulting performance analysis, etc. -- that guide the core activities of the company.

We are looking for individuals with experience applying machine learning techniques to noisy, real-world data sets and transforming them into actionable insights.  You should be able to source and mine data (using statistical software like R, SAS, SPSS, Mathematica, or otherwise) with little support from engineering, turn your findings into defined algorithms, and collaborate with engineering to scale and productize your work.  The ideal candidate will be eager to tackle hard problems and quickly generate results.

This job will be based in our offices in the Soho area of New York City, in collaboration with our engineering team in San Francisco. We offer a competitive compensation package including equity options.

Key responsibilities

  • Be a leading member of a team that owns the conception and development of systems for data analysis and prediction

  • Make actionable recommendations to the company based on the study of historical data

  • Conduct focused experiments that suggest optimizations, then clearly communicate the results

  • Collaborate with the product team to develop and scale solutions based on your work

Requirements

  • A BS in mathematics or statistics preferred; degrees in computer science or related fields okay; or significant relevant experience also okay

  • 3-5 years experience analyzing large data sets

  • The ability to design and build programs independently:  Experience with statistical programming software and languages like R, SAS, SPSS, SQL, etc. a plus.  And with general programming languages like Ruby, Python, C/C++, or Java also a plus.

  • Comfortable with the flexibility and intensity of a young start-up
