New Partnerships

I am very excited to have TechCafe (formerly Seattle Lunch 2.0) and TechFoam join the nPost site! Both are great organizations that have done fantastic things for the Seattle startup community. Personally, I am honored to have them hosted on the nPost site and to be able to work with them on current and upcoming events.

Compete for Investment in Seattle – WSA Investment Forum

As of today, applications to present at the event are now being accepted.  The event is scheduled for April 24th at Bell Harbor Conference Center.

The event is now in its 15th year, and draws ~ 350 attendees who want visibility on 30 of the area’s most promising tech companies.  Most of the local technology investors attend the event, as well as a decent gathering of investors from the  Bay Area and other locales.  This year’s forum will include representatives from five different sector:

* Digital media
* Early-stage/growth
* Web services/software
* Wireless
* Clean tech

New this year is a partnership between WSA and the Alliance of Angels (AofA), the most established and historically most active angel network in the area.  The AofA will be involved in vetting and selecting the early-stage/growth track.

Deadline for submissions is Feb. 8; applicants are not required to be WSA members. Additional information at http://www.wsa.org/pages/events/events_events_wsaevent.asp?id=08IF.

NWEN Pub Night – January 17th

NWEN is excited to partner with nPost for our first Pub Night of 2008!  Pub Night is a networking event for entrepreneurs and is an NWEN “members-only” event held 6 times per year.  Because nPost is also dedicated to tech entrepreneurship and startups, we are inviting members to join the Pub Night fun on January 17th at Fx McRory’s and create an even bigger networking opportunity for both groups.

Register online today. The cost is only $20 and includes two drinks and appetizers. If you are an nPost member simply use the promo code ‘npostpn’ when you register online.

The festivities begin at 6 pm and are ‘officially’ over at 8 pm, although networking typically continues a bit longer.  We look forward to seeing all of you on January 17th at FX McRory’s in downtown Seattle.

Upgrades at Zillow

From John Cook:

Zillow.com has increased the number of homes that it collects information on and improved the accuracy of its online home valuations, known as Zestimates, by a national average of 12 percent. The Seattle company, backed with $89 million in venture funding, said it now has data on 80 million U.S. homes and valuations on 67 million of those homes. With an estimated 91 million homes in the U.S., Spencer Rascoff has some information on more than three-quarters of the homes in the country.

Seattle Startups Takes $13.3M

Looking to kill snail mail, Earth Class Mail takes big investment.  I am guessing it will take a bit more cash.

A Packed House

Crowd at nPost Event

I was quite impressed with the number of people that attended last Thursday’s nPost event at the historic Columbia City Theater! Estimates vary from between 150-200 people that attended as the night went on. Based upon the event wiki, there were well over 50 local startups represented. It is amazing to see this type of activity in Seattle and very exciting.

We were able to offer free beer and pizza for everyone and as usual that generated quite a crowd. I am sure the two free iPhones that we gave away as door prizes didn’t hurt either!

Now, you may be wondering… What can get all these people to look in one direction? Well, this is when the iPhone giveaway started. Of course people were interested.

Nathan Kaiser

Here I am introducing our sponsor, Atlas Accelerator, who made the entire event possible. Now comes the fun part, picking the winners:

Of course, I didn’t win. However two lucky individuals certainly did:

The two guys with the clear nametags and holding the iPhones were the winners. I am going to hold off releasing their names, but they are both involved within the local startup scene and both seem to be pretty happy about their having won!

I am in Portland this afternoon getting ready for the event this evening at the Laurelwood Ale House. If you are in the Portland area and involved in the local startup scene, we hope to see you tonight.
