From The Xtify Blog
We were excited to read about the semi-finalists in this years Navteq Global LBS Challenge a couple of days ago. The winners will be announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. The solutions created run the gammut and demonstrate the enormous potential of LBS.
The mobile coupon system created by Yoose GmbH highlights the contribution LBS can make towards transforming marketing by adding a new level of specificity and targeting. Retailers like Starbucks will be able to push location-specific SMS to their customers with relevant coupon offerings. Along those lines, Yoose created a “mobile wallet” which they hope will remove the need to carry around physical loyalty cards or keep scraps of paper in the form of coupons. Instead, stores and other merchants will send their coupons directly to your phone. Mobgeo and Connecthings delivered other interesting solutions along these lines too: MobGeo, for example, pledge to “bridge the gap between online, print and mobile channels” by bringing location-aware advertising.
Another of the semi-finalists was PhoneLocator (a creation of Birkett Enterprises). PhoneLocator allows users to find their phones and track where they’ve been. If that sounds interesting, check out www.seemywhere.com – a free service powered by Xtify. You can read more about the Navteq semi-finalists here.
Andrew will be in Barcelona next week checking out the latest and greatest mobile and LBS offerings, and of course evangelizing for Xtify.
