Brier Dudley has a blog about the loss of startups in Seattle over the past few months:

Calbucci also noted that fewer new Web startups are appearing. The list used to be growing by six to 10 companies a month, but this month added just four.

If you were to take this at face value, then yes Seattle has seen more closures than startups.  Though, this tally is not exactly accurate.  The startups that have closed their doors goes all the way back to the Summer of ’08.  And there isn’t data to show how many were closed in January.

Are shutdowns greater in number than startups?
