Obviously, any layoff is unfortunate, especially for those being laid off. However, I do think that this could lead to more Microsoft based startups. Entrepreneurship is often a matter of necessity and necessity can be an excellent driver. For any former Microsoft (or any recently laid off) employee who is looking to start their own company, I am happy to share that their are a lot of excellent resources available:
- Seattle Tech Startups
- Seattle 2.0 (info & resources)
- Lunch 2.0 (networking, free food!
- nPost (networking, drinks, resources – Disclaimer: my own thing, so I am biased)
- NWEN (events, resources, mentoring, etc.)
Also, to every one who is looking at jumping into entrepreneurship this is great place to do it. It is a very open and welcoming community!
