I am here with Daniel Ha of Disqus. Would you mind giving us an overview of your startup?
Discus creates a cross-web community connecting blogs, comments and visitors. Our goal is to make blogs more interactive, more engaging, and to capture the attention of readers.
I started this out with my co founder, who is a friend of mine, and we were very much into the discussion space online. We spent a lot of time on IRC, you know, Usenet.com, discussion forums and the like. We were working on some projects around that, mostly just for fun. We both started blogging and contributing to other blogs as well within the comment sections.
I realized that the comment and discussion areas on different blogs had implicit networks around specific topics. We noticed it was pretty broken, that there were a lot of unaccountable things said, and there is no identity to be placed there. So, just working off of that, we started talking to a lot of bloggers, seeing what the problem was, we based the product really off of feedback, just adapting as we went along.
