The last post brought up a number of key questions as well as discussions about the pro / cons of having an office for a startup team. I took a look at the costs associated with renting office space and should have expounded more on the benefits to a team.
It was brought up to me by a few entrepreneurs (Cool Toors & CatchTheBest) as well as my co-founder that it can be very difficult for development teams to collaborate without being close to one another. IM, phone, chat, email, coffee shops simply do not provide the direct interaction that development teams need to code efficiently.
The feedback I received was that the sooner you can bring your team together, the better. However, you can definitely build your product / service without it, it just gets easier when you can turn around and talk to the guy whose deliverable you are waiting on…
